About Violet Pot Designs

Aloha! ʻO Keala koʻu inoa (Hello! My name is Keala). Iʻm the owner, founder, and designer behind Violet Pot Designs.

Violet Pot Designs was born during a season of rebuilding — when growth felt slow, uncertain, and deeply personal. What began as a way to reconnect with plants became a way to reconnect with myself. Plants offered structure when things felt unsteady, patience when progress felt invisible, and reminders that healing unfolds in its own time.

That experience guides everything I create. Every plant and botanical design is thoughtfully curated with people in mind — especially those growing through change, healing, and becoming. My hope is simple: to put a smile on someone’s face. You never know the hardships someone may be carrying, and sometimes a single plant can offer comfort, encouragement, or a quiet moment of peace.

I specialize in rare orchids, driftwood plant decor, air plant displays, and handmade hypertufa, cement, and polymer clay planters — not just for beauty, but for the way they make people feel. Violet Pot Designs is built on the belief that growth isn’t always linear; but with care and the right environment, it is always possible.

Heritage & Roots

Plants also connect me to my roots in a very personal way.

On my Hawaiian side, my relationship with plants feels more ancestral and spiritual. Growing kalo (taro or Colocasia esculenta) taught me that plants can be teachers — connecting us to land, lineage, and one another. It was less about control and more about harmony, growing alongside the environment rather than against it.

On my Japanese side, farming has always been part of my family’s story. My great-great grandfather was part of the farmer class in old Japan and immigrated to Hawaii with my great-great grandmother, who was of the samurai class. Working the plantation fields was not lucrative as was promised, but it gave my great-great grandparents the opportunity to be together and to freely love each other.

Living in Northern California means I can’t grow everything the same way I once did. But the act of tending plants still brings both sides of me together — the intention of my Japanese roots and the grounding connection of my Hawaiian roots.

Violet Pot Designs lives in that space between — honoring tradition, embracing growth, and finding meaning in the simple, steady act of care.

“Plants didn’t solve everything, but they gave me moments of peace when I needed them most.”
